Day Two Done!

We made it into Union Dale, PA around 5:00pm and were met by The Vacation Inn owner, Rocco. What a great guy and his place is at the top of some good hiils. The views are quite amazing and the air is crisp and clear, so for those of you who prefer a cool night in the summer, keep this place in mind! The are doing some renovation work to put in a big banquet area but I suspect the charm the place has won’t change when the work is done! Very cool!!

The other cool stuff relates to our day of visiting with shelters and riding our bikes. It is very rewarding when people hear what you are doing and then thank you for doing it… It makes it much easier to know that the good cause is understood and shared by many.

The reason for the late post – Gary and I went to pick up Mike in the Stillman Volvo XC60. Though Doug had to regroup with his family to get to a swim meet in Buffalo tomorrow, we now have Mike so hopefully we can get him to pull us tomorrow for the 100+ mile day. We will be visiting Binghamton and riding with some STBC folks!!

Lunch never tasted so good as …

We made it to Moscow, PA and stopped at a great place called The Cabin Cafe. We met with Diane, Melanie and Joy (see photo below and know they are sitting from right to left if you want the right name to the face) and they took great care of us!
We told them about the great hills we passed and the numerous 2000 foot ridges with the 1000 foot valleys between them. Now you know why the title to this blog entry! As great and fresh as the food was, it was near heavenly after the riding! Maybe being on top of a hill makes everything look, smell, taste, and just seem so much better! The Poconos are just a great place to be!!

Another great thing about the area is the camaraderie that forms. This morning, you already saw our stop at the CCFOA and you can read the Times News piece tomorrow as well as watch the Blue Ridge 13 television piece later today, but if you were listening to Penn’s Peak Radio Office Party show this morning, “Doc” had another 15 minute segment on us and he offered to contact the WNEP folks to see if another reporter could cover us today (Bob Reynolds was unable today). How is that for cool?!?

Carbon County Friends of Animals Visit

We just finished a great visit with the CCFOA and got media coverage with the Times News (look for the story by Vinny Vella) and Blue Ridge – 13 television (our interviewer was Bob Ross) and our hostess was Denise Sebelin along with a bunch of great volunteer and folks from the CCFOA.

Day 2 starts at 6:30AM

Not too early, but already 70 degrees and muggy outside. It figures that we’ll be riding the most hills at the time when we hit a heat wave. Fortunately, we have plenty of liquids with us in the SAG vehicle!

Our first stop is the Carbon County Friends of Animals in Jim Thorpe for 8:30AM. We will be met there by TV-13 and the Times News. Photos to follow after our visit!
