Eating at Roadies

Everyone knows that cyclists can eat a fair amount and we did at Roadies, a restaurant at the top of Penn’s Peak. We chose an outside table because Of the spectacular view and because of the 60′s trivia that DJ Layne “the Doctor” offered this evening. What a great night and in keeping with tradition, we want to thank our hostesses Kristen and Susie and our server Kristy who took special care of us. The Doctor mentioned our event during the evening and we just had a blast! Here are some photos!

Pedaling4paws visits Penn’s Peak Radio

Our 2nd year in the row with Penn’s Peak Radio host Casey Parker on her show Afternoons with Casey Parker. Very cool!

Day One is Done!

We finished our ride at 4:23pm with a 16+ average and great weather! We have 108 done and only 390 miles or so to go. Now a quick shower and change and we are off to PennsPeak Radio for an interview. More soon!

Lunch in Topton

We arrived in Topton and stopped at the Market Cafe like last year. This year we met with cyclists Rob and Debbie and enjoyed a leisurely lunch!

Rob was riding a 2006 Eddy Merckx that was number 58 out of a total 100 made and looked quite vintage!

Mid-Ride Interview with the Ogdensburg Journal

Around noon, I got a call from Benny at the Ogdensburg Journal. Fortunately for him, I was climbing a long hill so the wind noise was low but unfortunately my heavy breathing made up for it! As soon as the story is published, we will post a link to it.

Our Visit with the Animal Rescue League of Berks

We made good time getting to the Animal Rescue League of Berks where we were greeted by Barrie Pease and the good folks at the ARL. Barrie brought his Great Pyrenees and a rescue called Baby. Both beautiful dogs!

We put our bikes up against the car and feasted on food provided by Barrie.

We were also greater by Channel 69 and interviewed. As soon as the online video is available, we will post it.

Oddly enough, though the interviewer spoke to us for about 10 minutes, in typical TV fashion, we got 21 seconds of airplay, but worst than that, they used a rather odd logo (certainly not the one we offered) and got both the final destination and the mileage wrong.  Still, we had a lot of fun with it and if you’re interested, here’s the link to the video:

Rainy Start on Day 1

It’s 6:30AM and a heavy rain just passed about an hour ago leaving wet roads. We can’t control the weather, but we will be controlling our speed and recognizing that brakes aren’t as good in wet weather. More soon!

Day 1 – The Quick Summary

Day one includes 107.7 miles and 6,525 feet of climbing from West Chester to Lehighton. Once we start riding this route, we’ll be updating the blog roughly every two hours.
